Magical Underwear?

Alright folks. Let's just dispell a myth, shall we?

There's no such thing as "magical underwear". I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, known to most folks as Mormons, and we do not wear or even own anything that could be considered "magical underwear".

In fact, I find the term offensive. I had my first class in World Religions today and overheard a couple people talking about the LDS church and they simply displayed their lack of information and knowledge on the subject by talking about "magical underwear".

Yes, devout members of the LDS church wear garments under their clothing, but it's not underwear. It's sacred clothing. I won't get into details, because sacred means "regarded with reverence". Cherished, consecrated, hallowed, holy, revered. If you'd like to know more this isn't the place to learn it. Just know that we don't have "magical underwear". We won't ever have "magical underwear".

Please don't use the term. Thankyouverymuch!

It's Been a While

Well hello ladies and gentlemen!

It's been a while.

It would appear the last time I posted was October 2010. Let me tell you there have been some changes to say the least. Shall I give you a run through? Well, I'm to anyway.

April 2011 - I went back to church. I'm LDS, otherwise known as Mormon. I hadn't practiced in MANY years. I was living with my boyfriend, but keep reading and you'll see what happened. Oh yea and I brought Oleesia and Shaenin along with me. So every week I go to church and every-other week I'm accompanied by my beautiful, faithful, obedient daughters.

December 2011 - Bishop called me to his office and asked about my living situation. I knew it was going to have to be address eventually. Needless to say, after some discussion with Bishop and Craig, wedding plans were in the works.

July 2012 - Craig and I were married in Lincoln City, Oregon on the pier next to Mo's Restaurant. It was a great day! A bit breezy, but great for photos, if you ask my wedding photographer aka cousin Carolynn. She was awesome and the photos were amazing. We did a wedding on the cheap. My sister Shana made my dress, as well as my daughters'. Old Navy was shopped for the boys' clothing all the way down to their flip-flops. Bale's Thriftway in Cedar Mill provided the DELICIOUS cupcakes and sheet cake. Costco was our caterer. I baked a ton of cookies and Craig made some BBQ sauces and smoked pork (with the smoker he purchased a couple months earlier).

January 2013 - I was fired from my job at ACS, Inc/Xerox, Inc. We won't go into details, but I was able to receive unemployment. Craig quit working for Pacific Coast Fruit Company in Portland, where he was a produce delivery driver. He started at Ligman Lighting, USA in Hillsboro as a project manager. It's a small company, but he's home every night and he loves the work. We participated in a charity bowling tournament where we met Steven and Windy Hazell. They've become our bowling partners and we've been bowling league every Monday night mid-February. Oh yea! I was returned to full fellowship at church completing my repentance process, asked to give a talk and accept a calling.

February 2013 - I gave my first EVER talk in sacrament. Topic: Our Lord and Redeemer, Jesus Christ. I bawled through nearly the whole thing. I accepted a calling as a Relief Society Meeting Committee member.

March 2013 - I enrolled in school full time at Portland Community College, Rock Creek Campus. Blake, Craig's oldest son, celebrated his 17th birthday. Sheesh, I think I may be old!

April 2013 - I started classes. College Algebra at 7am! Introduction to Business. Introduction to Business Technology.

May 2013 - Christopher, our oldest child and my son, turned 18! I turned 38 a couple days later, confirming I am, indeed, old.

June 2013 - Christopher graduated from Liberty High School on the 8th, along with his cousin, Christopher Harris. Great job boys!

Lynneah, my Chris's girlfriend, graduated on the 11th. Way to go young lady!

Garett, my other step-son, graduated on the 12th. YAY!!!

My Chris moved in with Lynneah at her mom's house. BOO!!!

I finished my first term of school with 2 Bs and an A. Phew! And the rest of the kids finished school for the year. Oleesia turned 10 and is officially a tweenager. Now I've started school for the summer taking Computer Accounting Applications, 10-key on Calculators, World Religions and English Composition.

With getting married, kids getting older and running off to have their own lives, it seems we're starting a new chapter. Last week was the only off week we'll have most of the summer. Soon begins the soccer and lacrosse tournaments. Then there's school.

Wish us luck!

I'm not greedy!

Ok so Oleesia plays soccer and she L-O-V-E-S it. She gets this really intense look on her face and she moves around the field almost like she's dancing sometimes. It can be really funny to watch because she's seven-years-old and is still in the learning phases of soccer. She only has eight games in the fall league and this season she's playing for the Red Dragons. It's an all girls' team and I think everyone is in the 2nd grade. Did I mention she LOVES to play soccer?

So last week, September 25th, she was playing and managed a hat trick. That's THREE goals in the game. Remember we're talking about seven-year-olds here so they don't play with a goalie right now. Goals abound during the course of the game. This week, October 2nd, Oleesia had her next soccer game and they didn't have any subs. Four girls were missing for the game. She was getting really tired by half-time having played the whole time and it was a really fast paced game. Oleesia had a scored one goal in the first half and really was tuckered out. Fortunately, snack time equals half time and she got a break for bit. During half time I just told her to do her best because she was doing so well, but she wanted to get another hat trick like last week. Maybe even one better.... Not greedy at all!

Oleesia came back to the 2nd half of the game with a vengeance and scored her 2nd goal of the game. WooHoo! She was doing well. I told her one more for her hat trick, but no, she holds up two fingers. She wanted the four goals! A few minutes later, Oleesia had her hat trick chance. The ball was inches from the goal.... AND SHE SCORES! GOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLL for the Olee Poe!!! And is she satisfied?

No!!! I want one more she tells me. I let her know to just stay focused and do her best. Time ran out and Oleesia had to settle for 2nd hat trick, but left the game wanting.

Not greedy at all!

Great game Oleesia!!

It's what's for dinner!

As I'm laying in my bed this morning, the first morning of a three day weekend, Olee and Shae come piling into my bed with me. They're being silly as usual and it's first thing in the morning so they're in great moods. Lucky me! I'm not quite awake yet, but I'm getting there and they want to discuss dinner tonight.

Olee asks, "Mom, what are we having for dinner tonight?" I'm not really prepared with an answer so I'm thinking when Shae decides to answer for me. Matter-of-factly she states, "Groundhog, probably." I'm wondering where this came from when she starts listing off the sides for the groundhog. "Fans, lightbulbs, lamps with lights all tossed in a salad." Of course, Olee starts giggling like crazy and they both go nuts about other things they would be having for dinner tonight. Bears' feet, bears' legs and a whole bunch of other nutty things. Silliness reigns supreme!

All I really have to say is: All you groundhogs out there better watch out. You're what's for dinner. Forget beef! And if it means you don't see your shadow on February 2nd then I'm all for it. Who needs six more weeks of winter anyway?

"In Between" is NOT a place!

So this may seem like a really dumb argument, especially when you consider the two sides of the argument are not children. Yes folks, we're talking about grown adults in their 30s. Ain't life grand?

My supervisor and I were talking about when I would have my coaching session for the week. I asked him if I should plan on it when I returned from my lunch. His response was, "Yes. Unless I'm not here because then I'm there, but if I'm not there then I'm in between." My answer: "In between in not a place!" Thus the argument began. Sigh. Really, two grown adults. One man. One woman.

The woman states, "In between in NOT a place, because you're not here or there. You could be anywhere or somewhere."
The man says, "Yes it is, because I'm not here or there, I'm in between."

We even pulled another "neutral" 3rd party into it. It was another man. We wanted a decision on who was right. His remarks were that he could see both perspectives. Really folks. Someone has to be right and I vote for the woman! Me, of course.

You can be here, there, anywhere, somewhere, everywhere, and nowhere, but clearly "in between" is not a place. Notice the similarities in the above list of words. All of them have "ere" at the end. "In between" doesn't have the letter 'r' to make the "ere".

So we put it to you fine people.... Is "in between" a place? Let me know!

Injuries are for the girls!

So this is my first blog post really. My 15-year-old son, Chris, thought I should write one about my daughters, but I felt it would be more fun and interesting to write about all the crazy things that happen to our family. I'm going to start with some recent events.

I wasn't feeling well on Tuesday so I stayed home from school, only to hear from Derek, my daughters' father and my ex-husband, that he was taking my baby girl to the doctor because her arm was sore. This was all via text message so I just asked that he let me know what was up. As it turns out, my 4-1/2-year-old daughter, Shaenin, had cracked her collar bone. It's a break, but not all the way through the bone. It made her arm sore and she didn't want to use it a whole lot and the doctor said she needed to keep it in a sling for at least a week to rest it and let the bone start to mend. Apparently this is a common occurance and it's not unusual for kids to break their collar bone and on top of all that, it'll mend on its own as long as she rests.

I'm just wondering why I have FOUR boys and TWO girls and my girls have managed to break, split and bruise more than the boys. Shaenin has cut her eye requiring stitches and split the back of her head requiring staples. Then there's the collar bone. Oleesia, my 7-year-old daughter, has been to the hospital for a gash in her head, also requiring stitches.

All four of the boys play lacrosse, two play football and one plays basketball and I think just my 14-year-old stepson, Blake is the only one who's been injured, breaking his collarbone, his foot and his finger all on separate occasions. I just don't understand it!

So back to the broken collar bone... Shaenin apparently dove onto her dad's bed and did a very quick log roll from the middle of the bed and went FLYING off the bed. After she landed on the floor, she smacked into her baby brother's crib with her collar bone and that's when it cracked or broke or whatever.

So my little Shaenin isn't exactly a petite little girl, but she's not this big bruiser either. The one thing she is is a rambuncious little monkey that doesn't realize that she can really hurt herself. She's a ton of fun and full of energy, but whew! she doesn't stop unless she's asleep. Then she's just a big cuddler.

I have no idea how to contain her energy, but I'd love to bottle it and use it for myself, just to keep up with her. I love the monkey!
